Usually when you look up beauty hack ideas you’ll find TONS of ideas on how to do your makeup better or how to make sure your ponytail is on point.
And while those life hacks can come in handy on any given day you need to use them, there are also more subtler beauty hacks out there that don’t necessarily involve hair and makeup that can help you feel just as beautiful.
Especially if you’re a minimalist when it comes to hair and makeup and tend to go for a more natural look. Or maybe lately you’re busy and you’re trying to prioritize what really matters.
Either way some of these ‘makeup-less’ beauty hacks are worth embracing. Here’s a closer look at each one.
Give yourself a reason to smile
And this doesn’t mean to be positive all day long so you go around cheesing like a mad person.
It simply means improve your teeth brushing routine so you’re pearly whites are whiter and you feel more comfortable smiling.
As the cliche saying goes, there’s not much else more attractive on a person than a sincere and easy going smile. And those tend to come around easier when you don’t mind showing your teeth in all their unique glory.
One way to go about keeping your teeth in the best shape is to mix a bit of peroxide and baking soda together and using it to brush your teeth along with your tooth paste.
Also, the next time you eat strawberries, try rubbing some on your teeth. Their chemical makeup helps your teeth stay white for longer.
Embracing your hair, come as it may
Embracing your natural hair can do wonders for your morning routine. It can shorten it, for one. And also you don’t have to buy as many products as you once thought you did.
Now, embracing your natural hair might have to come with some creativity, but that doesn’t mean its impossible.
If your thin hair tends to frizz during a rainy season, opting for a slicked back hair bun might do the trick.
If your hair is greasy but you didn’t have time to wash it that morning, put it in a tight high ponytail and curl the ends.
It can take a bit of creativity, but staying away from constant hairspray and heat that only damage your hair in the long run is definitely possible.
Meditate for a bit in the mornings
Meditating can help you stay centered, focused and more clear headed.
Though it can often be a habit that’s hard to form for most people, it can also be one of the most rewarding ones. One of the important benefits of meditating is that it can help you fight off burn out and help you feel more awake and present.
There are lots of misconceptions when it comes to meditation. One way to ease into it is to start journaling your thoughts for five minutes a day everyday.
And awake and present is ‘makeup’ that looks good on anyone, any day.
Create a nighttime facial routine
This is something that lots of us fail to do. And that’s because we haven’t started a habit of trying to make the most of winding down during the night before finally heading to bed.
A nighttime facial routine will make sure your skin stays plump, hydrated, and with a lot less blemishes (especially when you’re hitting those stressful periods during the week).
This can be as simple as some eye cream for your under eye and some moisturizing cream designated especially for your face and skin type.
Find something that works for you and your type of skin, and stick with it.
In other words, stay active.
It releases endorphins and makes you feel great and dewy.
Of course, you don’t want to walk around sweaty all the time, but if you can pin down a quick work out routine every other day of the week you’ll find that you’re less cranky and more willing to embrace the day and make the most of it.
SPF and water matter
These are small things that we all tend to ignore but are the things that should be kept in the forefront when it comes to taking care of ourselves and our skin.
They go hand in hand in whether your skin looks sallow and gray or hydrated and alive.
And you can easily make it part of your makeup and hair routine. Next time you’re getting ready to go, make sure you slap on your favorite non-greasy SPF and head to the kitchen for a full glass of water while you get ready!
Learn to love constant changes
This is more of a learning to manage your own stress and emotions throughout our life. To make sure we’re are present and taking care of the people that we love and that love us.
One thing that can be a major stressor and throw you off is change, of any sort.
This can be at work, or it can be sudden changes in school or in your personal life.
Learning to take those changes with as much grace and responsibility as possible can be a great way to stay motivated, alert, awake, and staying positive which always gives off a great vibe to others no matter where you are.
Beauty comes from what we do in private too
Beauty isn’t only how perfectly you coif your hair or if your eyeliner matches and you have the perfectly blended eye shadow.
Beauty can also come from the fact that you’ve taken the time to care for yourself inwards and outwards in your free time so everything else that you decide to put on top of that is simply a cherry on top.
If you learn to embrace imperfections and cooperating with them instead of constantly working against them does a whole lot for you on the inside and the outside.
And we all know that beauty is nothing if it doesn’t come from the inside first.
