Sugar cookies are an easy treat you can make in about 20 minutes of your afternoon.
Take note these cookies are not the cut out sugar cookies that you make with cookie cutters. They’re actually quite the opposite, hence how easy the recipe is to make.
All you have to do is cream together the right amount of each classic sugar cookie ingredient, set on a cookie sheet, bake, and you’ve got yourself a cookie that is chewy, moist, and fluffy.
This recipe makes about 20-25 cookies depending on how the dough is divided. Get the full recipe below!

Easy Sugar Cookie Recipe
- 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 large egg
- 1 cup butter, room temperature
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tbsp. vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup extra sugar for garnishing
Set oven to 350 degrees and line your baking pans with parchment paper.
In a bowl mix flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt and let sit.
Mix together sugar and room temperature butter until well combined, then add your egg and your vanilla extract.
Add in your dry ingredient mixture in thirds until well combined and scrape sides of bowl. Dough should be semi-sticky.
Use a spoon to create spoon sized scoops and set on your cookie sheets. You can stagger each spoonful to fit your cookie sheet or you can fit your cookie dollops in rows of three. Your cookies will not look perfectly round but you can use your spoon to give them a general shape.
With another spoon, sprinkle sugar over the tops of your cookies to your taste. You can also buy colored sprinkles and use those as garnish too for a more colorful look!
Set in oven and cook for 8 minutes, or just til the edges are very slightly golden brown. Take out and leave to cool (about 15 minutes)
